For MTV’s recent global brand relaunch, they wanted to capture real people with unique perspectives
and millennial aspirations. In creating “Skate Life,” I tapped into pro skater Josh Zickert “JZ,” to bring street skating culture to MTV through his life, friends, pursuits, and secret skate spots. As writer, director and designer of the series, I created over 22 TV spots, web content, banners, social media, promos and an iPhone app.

MTV dedicated this page to showcase the “Skate Life” series and promote the “Skate Finder” iPhone app. Long-form web spots and 30-second TV spots were featured. The website was a portal into NYC skater “JZ’s” life.

Opening the relauch for MTV is this intimate portrait of skater “JZ” and his emotional connection to skateboarding at night. This spot is considered iconic of MTV’s new programing direction. It is one of 22 sptos for broadcast and web that I wrote and directed for the “Skate Life Campaign.”

“Skate Finder” is a comprehensive NYC skateboard directory. You can find JZ’s top skate spots near you via GPS—plus car, subway and walking directions to get there. It features streaming RSS news feeds from Thrasher, Skateboarding, Transworld and MTV, and free exclusive songs to skate by from iTunes. You can also upload your own skate spots.
